Educational Classes/Lessons/Workshops

  • My Qualifications to Teach Art

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Ball State University with a strong foundation in studio art, child development, and creative instruction. I base my educational instruction on the DBAE (Discipline-Based Art Education) model, which integrates four disciplines of art—art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics—to help students create meaningful work, understand the context behind it, think critically about art, and develop their own artistic voice. I completed coursework in classroom management, lesson planning, and art integration, along with hands-on experience teaching K–12 students during my practicum. I completed and passed the edTPA, a national teacher performance assessment. I had fieldwork and student teaching at both East Allen University and Paul Harding Junior High, where I worked closely with students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs where I had to differentiate instruction to support students with IEPs, 504s, and English language learners.

While I chose not to pursue a public school teaching license after graduation, my passion has always been in more creative, flexible learning spaces where students are excited to be there—like workshops, homeschool groups, and community-based art experiences.

My goal is to make art approachable, joyful, and meaningful.

  • Designed for students who want to grow their artistic skills beyond the basics—and for homeschool families seeking structured, creative art lessons grounded in real art education.

Includes: Weekly 2-hour classes with hands-on projects, art history, aesthetics, criticism, and skill-building activities. Also includes supplies for projects and activities.

Approach: Lessons are based on the DBAE (Discipline-Based Art Education) model, covering all four core disciplines:

    • Art History – learning about artists and cultural movements

    • Art Criticism – discussing and analyzing artwork

    • Aesthetics – exploring the meaning and purpose of art

    • Studio Practice – creating original work with intention

Students receive: Weekly projects adapted to grade levels, new vocabulary, and guided creative practice.

    Current Grade Bands Offered:

    • 5th-12th grade Mondays 4:30-6:30pm OR Tuesdays 11-2pm

Pricing: $100 per student for a 4-week session (2 hour/week) which includes all supplies! If a student cannot make a week in the 4 week session, they can make it up in the following session.

    Location & Hosting

I currently do not have a dedicated studio space, but I’m actively exploring options—such as partnering with local libraries or community centers. I’m also open to a rotating host model if families are comfortable taking turns using their homes for classes.

If you’re interested or have ideas for a location, I’d love to chat and work together to make this possible!

    Glazing & Finishing (One-Time Lessons)
Because pottery takes time to dry and be fired before glazing, finished pieces are not ready the same day. For one-time experiences, I will bisque fire and glaze your work for you in a food-safe glaze. You’ll be able to choose from a small selection of glaze colors during your session, and I will return your finished pieces once they are ready (allow 3–4 weeks).

    Glazing & Finishing (Ongoing Lessons)
Students in ongoing lessons if they have gotten their own glaze will glaze their own pieces as part of the learning process. Those who have not purchased their own glaze can have me glaze them remotely for $5-$10 per piece. We will cycle lessons so you can glaze your earlier work while continuing to create new pieces.

    • Glaze fee (if not getting your own glaze): $5–10 per piece (depending on size).

    • Clay beyond the initial 5 lbs: $2 per lb, or you may bring your own recommended stoneware.

  • Perfect for: One-time fun projects or seasonal crafts

Includes: All supplies + take-home piece
